Ah good effort.<BR/><BR/>Did you see <A HREF="http://www.fourgoodcorners.com/dave-gormans-america-without-chains/" REL="nofollow">Dave Gorman's film</A> about his trip across the US coast to coast without using any chains at all? Not sure if it's been released in the US yet. He used all independent hotels, restaurants, shops and gas stations. It looked pretty difficult in places, but nice to know

I've lucked out. The only time my kids have eaten at one it was a boat-up McD's on a vacation. We docked the boat and went inside. And I've promised them that EVERY time we see a boat McD's we will go to it.

I grew up overseas so there were no franchise chain nightmares (good!) but going to McDonald's was the holy grail of returning to the US and I've loved it my whole life as a consequence of deprivation (bad!).<BR/><BR/>Now I rarely go but when I do I still remember being a little kid back in the states and beelining for McD's from the airport.

Isn't it humbling when we have ideals that get thrown out the window? Fast food experiences for my girls are now reserved for roadtrips to Indiana (what is it about the Hoosier State?!) and when Grandma comes to visit. From Indiana.
